Penang Sentral is the main integrated transport hub in Penang, serving as the gateway to George Town, Butterworth, and the northern regions of Malaysia. Strategically located in Butterworth, it brings together long-distance buses, Rapid Penang local buses, KTM trains, and the ferry to George Town, making it a key interchange for both island and mainland travel.

Getting to Penang Sentral
Penang Sentral is located on the crossroads where Butterworth Outer Ring Road and Jalan Metcher meet.

Large landmarks nearby are the NB Tower / Penang International Dental College.

The road up to the station is surrounded by several tall pillars decorated with designs based on the Malaysian flag, state flags, and the logo of Penang Sentral

Entrance at Penang Sentral
Penang Sentral has one main entrance located on Level 3, accessible via a flyover. It features a designated drop-off zone commonly used by taxis, e-hailing services such as Grab, and private vehicles. This serves as the primary access point to the station.

Floor Navigation
Level 1
Enter via Escalators from the Main Entrance on Level 3, take the escalators down two floors to arrive at Level 1.

Level 1 of the main Penang Sentral building functions as the Departure and Arrival hall for both intercity and local buses. In the adjoining KTM station and Ferry Terminal, the boarding areas are also located on Level 1.
Level 1 covers a few station amenities and just a within a few minutes’ walk - you’ll find:
- Restrooms
- Massage Chairs
- Vending Machines

Level 2
Level 2 in the main Pennag Sentral building serves as the main concourse and waiting area specifically for the Bus (Intercity).
There is linkways from Level 2 to the Ferry Terminal and KTM ETS & Intercity Terminal which is located in the other building.

You can only access Level 2 via the escalators from Level 3, as it serves as a one-way boarding gate to the bus services below.
Level 2 has several amenities and just a within a few minutes’ walk - you’ll find:
- Lockers
- Currency Exchange
- Restaurants such as KFC
- Convenience Stores such as 7-11
- Pharmacy like Guardian

Level 3
Level 3 is the main entrance. From here, you can easily make your way down to Level 2, where all the transport terminals are located - including buses, ferries, ktm and taxis - making it the key hub for continuing your journey.

You can access Level 3 via the Main Entrance or take the escalators or lift up from Level 2.

Level 3 covers a few station amenities and just a within a few minutes’ walk - you’ll find:
- Beryl's
- Restrooms
- Lift
- Food Court

Ticketing and Boarding
To get aboard onto any mode of transportation, take the escalators down to Level 2 after entering through the main entrance.

Ferry
The Ticket Counters for the Ferry are located in a separate building that's connected to Penang Sentral.
When arriving at Level 2, walk towards KFC for about 10 meters after passing the pillar, and then turn right. Walk straight between KFC and Tealive until you reach the glass sliding door.

Once you exit the sliding door, ascend a short flight of stairs and exit through the next glass sliding door.

After exiting, walk straight for about 30 meters until you see an overhead sign.

Turn right and continue walking straight for another 40 meters until you see a lift on your right.

Take the lift down. Upon exiting the lift, turn right and walk about 20 meters and the ferry entrance will be on your right.

The ferry service operates a single-route journey from Penang Sentral to George Town.
You can purchase tickets through the Ticket Vending Machine. Select the desired destination and pay the fare displayed using credit/debit cards, and QR Pay. Or you can go directly to the auto gate machine, and tap your debit/credit, Touch n' Go card or scan your e-wallet QR code.

Once your ticket has been validated, walk straight towards the waiting area and wait until the terminal staff inform you that your ferry is ready for boarding.

Once your ferry is ready for boarding, walk towards the staff counter and through the glass doors.

Continue straight and walk down towards the bridge which will lead you to the boarding area for the Ferry.

Once you have arrived at the boarding area line up and wait your turn to board the Ferry.

KTM ETS & Intercity
The Ticket Counters for the KTM are located in a separate building that's connected to Penang Central.
When arriving at Level 2, walk towards KFC for about 10 meters after passing the pillar, and then turn right. Walk straight between KFC and Tealive until you reach the glass sliding door.

Once you exit the sliding door, ascend a short flight of stairs and then turn left into a long corridor with glass windows on both sides.

Walk all the way straight until you reach another opening to a corridor with an overhead signage that shows directions to the KTMB Butterworth counter.

Walk straight for another 20 meters and you will reach a set of stairs and escalators.

Take the escalators up to the next level. Upon reaching the upper level, walk for another 40 meters and then turn left.

After turning left, you should see a convenience store towards your right.

Walk for another 40 meters and you will reach the KTMB Butterworth station on your right.
You can purchase the ticket either at customer service office where Staff are available at the counter to assist you, or at ticket vending machine. Or You can use the Touch'n'Go card.

Using your ticket or Touch'n'Go card, place it against the reader on the ticket validation machine to be granted access.

After crossing the ticket validation machines, you will arrive in an open space where you will see a glass wall on your opposite.

Walk for 20 meters straight until you reach a flight of stairs down on the right.

Take the stairs down and you will reach the boarding area.

Once you have reached the boarding area, wait at your designated platform according to your ticket.

Bus (Intercity)
When arriving at Level 2, Follow the guidance of the overhead sign and make a right U-turn into the corridor opposite 7-Eleven, behind the security post.

Walk straight down this corridor for approximately 110 meters, passing Auntie Anne's and Guardian on your left, until you arrive at the information counter.

Make another right U-turn, where you will see ticket counters just before the set of escalators.
You can buy the ticket from a staff member at the counter or at Ticket Vending Machine


A digital ticket with a QR code will be issued. Present your ticket to staff at the pre-boarding counters to access the boarding area.

Once your ticket has been validated by the staff, take the escalator down to Level 1.

You will now be in the Departure Hall. Refer to the overhead signage and check your bus ticket to confirm your designated boarding gate and its location.

Once you arrive at your designated boarding gate, proceed to the staff counter to have your ticket revalidated and confirm you are at the correct gate.
After verification, the staff will inform you which platform your bus is departing from, and you can also refer to the overhead screens for the platform number.

Bus (Local)
On Level 2, look for the escalators located near to the Guardian.

Take the escalator down to Level 1, where you’ll arrive at the Arrival/Departure Hall for local buses.

Boarding for Local buses is exclusively at Gates 11–13, refer to the overhead sign and walk towards the customer information counter in front of you.

Refer to screens on the pillars to determine which gate is relevant to you.

Once you arrive at your designated boarding gate, the boarding area is located outside the hall, accessible through the glass doors.

Line up at the boarding area and wait for your turn to board the bus.

The bus fare is paid on the bus. You can pay your bus fare using cash, a Pas Mutiara My50 card, debit or credit cards, or QR Pay on the bus. Once payment is made, the driver will issue a receipt.

Exit and Taxi Stand
If you disembarked from the ferry or train, follow the sign to enter the main building of Penang Sentral and take the escalators to Level 3.


If you disembarked from bus, proceed towards either Gate 11 & 13 which are the exclusive entrances to the Arrival Hall, and then the escalators up to Level 2 and then Level 3.


Penang Sentral Station has a single Taxi Terminal, conveniently located on Level 2.

Follow the overhead sign after taking the escalators and walk straight for roughly 40 meters passing the ladies toilet through the glass doors.

This terminal operates on a coupon system, so you’ll need to purchase your taxi coupon at the Coupon Taxi Ticket Counters that will be on your right before boarding.
